The Best Deal in Town – Meritage Restaurant

Meritage Restaurant, located in East Greenwich, might be the best kept secret in town. In my opinion, they might have the best Happy Hour/Late-Night menu around in terms of both quality and value. If you visit Meritage any day before 6pm or after 9:30pm, you can choose from a huge selection of pizza, appetizers, seafood, and more. Just about everything on the menu is around $6 – $7. How can you go wrong with that?!

This is why I visit Meritage…a lot! I’m able to grab a drink at the bar and splurge on massive amounts of food for a fraction of the usual price…especially for a restaurant of their caliber. See for yourself. Here is what I ordered during my last visit to Meritage:

Pictured above is the Fig Jam and Arugula Pizza with Goat Cheese, Onion, and Marinated Oven-Dried Tomatoes ($7.00).

That’s right. You can order an ENTIRE pizza to split amongst your table (or devour yourself if you’re a beast) for only $7.00! This pizza is strangely addictive. It is the perfect balance of both salty and sweet with the flavors from the goat cheese and fig jam bouncing off each other in every bite. The thin crust made the pizza taste super light, or maybe that was just the illusion of the arugula that tricked my mind into thinking I was eating salad instead. Either way, you need to try it for yourself!

Pan-Seared Scallops with Sriracha Chili Sauce over Wakimi Salad ($5.50)

These scallops were pan-seared to perfection. I enjoyed the small drop of Sriracha in the center which provided some intense heat to the dish. And if you have never had Sriracha before, trust me when I say that you don’t need much for it to light your mouth on fire.

These jumbo scallops may look ordinary but they turned out to be my favorite dish of the night. Sometimes less is more. And this was a simple dish done right!

Sesame Tuna served over Mixed Greens with Wasabi Aioli ($7.25)

This was a close runner-up for my favorite dish of the night (honestly it’s tough to choose when everything is so delicious!). In terms of value, it was like a whole meal for the price of an appetizer. Seriously…$7.25 for this is a great deal!

The tuna, which was quickly pan-seared and served rare, was encrusted with sesame seeds for some textural contrast. The Aioli had subtle hints of Wasabi. It was mellow and palatable, not overly robust like Wasabi usually is.

I will definitely be ordering this again next time.

Lobster Mac and Cheese ($6.50)

Last but certainly not least, we ordered a Lobster Mac and Cheese. As you can see, it is baked and overflowing with cheesy goodness. Buried beneath scrumptious layers of cheese and cracker toppings were generous chunks of luscious lobster meat.

My only regret is that I did not take pictures of actual lobster (probably because I was too busy eating it!). You wouldn’t believe how many pieces were in this bowl. It was literally LOADED with lobster. There is no possible way that Meritage can make a profit off of this dish for $6.50. Oh well, works for me! 🙂

In the end, I ordered four dishes for a grand total of about $26. Not to mention that I ordered some items that are usually pretty expensive elsewhere like scallops, tuna, lobster, and an entire pizza. Now if that’s not a great deal, I don’t know what is!!!
