Birthday Lunch at Bob & Timmy’s Grilled Pizza

You know what I hate? You wanna know what really grinds my gears? Whenever I eat at a restaurant and the table next to me is being serenaded by a bunch of teenagers holding a pre-frozen slice of birthday cake. I get angry just thinking about it. What’s even worse is that moment you see them creep around the corner and you quickly realize they are heading towards your table to sing Happy Birthday. Well, this past week I turned the big 2-5 and I made sure this would not happen to me.

I’ve always known about Bob & Timmy’s and a recent Man vs. Food episode sparked my interest. If recognition by Adam Richman isn’t enough, Bob & Timmy’s ranked #5 on a list of the best pizzas in America. With such a resume backing their decorative pies, it made perfect sense to have my cake and eat it too!

Caesar Salad w/ Foccacia Croutons and House made Dressing

Their pizza menu is quite extensive and my family and I had some trouble picking the “perfect pie”. Still undecided, we started with a plate of Bob & Timmy’s Caesar Salad. I am a HUGE fan of Caesar. In fact, it’s really the only kind of salad I eat. The simple ingredients and complex flavors are something you don’t find in your everyday plate of leafy greens.

The large hearts of romaine were extremely fresh and the foccacia croutons were buttery and toasted to perfection. I also enjoyed the house made dressing. The hints and flavor of the anchovies which at first seemed ok, became overwhelming and unfortunately took away from the overall taste of the salad. I think we just ran into a bad batch of dressing so I won’t knock them for that.

Sausage and Cheese Calzone w/ Marinara Sauce

I’m known to be a picky eater but my nephew, Junior, will always one up me. He isn’t really a fan of veggies so when the family decided on the Vegetable Medley Grilled Pizza (pictured atop of post) he opted for the classic calzone.

When the waitress delivered the calzone, the table nearly caved in. It had to have weighed 5 lbs, no lie!! As he cut into the meaty monstrosity, tons of molten mozzarella cheese spewed out onto the plate like a volcanic eruption. His “gift” to me was one half of the untamed beast and each bite got better and better (how generous).

Bob & Timmy’s focuses on using the freshest ingredients for all of their dishes and it was evident as thick cuts of sausage and bubbly cheese filled the inner lining of the calzone. Easily one of the best calzones I’ve had in my life.

Vegetable Medley Pizza ~ Spinach, Tomatoes, Red Peppers, Artichoke Hearts, Feta

Somewhat stuffed from the calzone, I was determined to enjoy the grilled pizza I’d been so anxiously waiting for. Brushed with olive oil and then tossed onto a grill until golden-brown, this pizza is literally piled high with mounds of fresh veggies and crumbled feta cheese. The tanginess of the feta fit well with the acidity of the tomatoes and artichoke hearts. An unbelievable pairing if you ask me.

Once again, Bob & Timmy’s earns the gold in the freshness category with this dish. After eating their pizza, I can see why they made the top 5 in the calling for “Americas Best Pizza”.

I’ll be brief. Go to Bob & Timmy’s and enjoy quite possibly the best pizza in Rhode Island. And don’t forget to GPS it!!
