Grabbing a Slice at The Pizza Gourmet

The East Side of Providence is littered with restaurants, cafes, and eateries. Whatever type of food you’re in the mood for, you’ll find it on the streets of Hope and Wickenden. A couple of days ago I was craving pizza, but not of the greasy, doughy variety.

I stumbled upon The Pizza Gourmet by accident. My friend Albert and I were heading towards a local camera shop on Hope Street and their sign grabbed our attention. We were hungry so it made sense to make a quick pit stop and see what this place was all about.

The Pizza Gourmet carries Yacht Club…Nice!!!

Located off the corner of Hope and Olney (right next to Tortilla Flats), The Pizza Gourmet is a cozy, little pizza place. They offer your usual lineup of pizzas, wings and sandwiches but they are more known for their “Take and Bake” pizzas; half-cooked pies that customers can take home. I can never see myself in a situation where I would order a “Take and Bake” but it’s a cool option nonetheless.

Hawaiian BBQ Pizza topped with Bacon, Prosciutto, Pineapples, and Scallions

Out of all the specialty pizzas on the menu, this one caught our eye. It was like a modern twist on the classic Hawaiian . Instead of ham, the pizza was covered with crispy shreds of prosciutto and tons of sweet, juicy pineapple. They also used a house-made BBQ Sauce which gave the pizza a spicy, tangy kick.

Really glad we chose this one. It was delicious. Every slice seemed to get better and better. And we couldn’t even finish the LARGE (and we were HUNGRY!).

Simple Peasant – Pomodoro Sauce, Garlic and Italian Parsley

We were graciously offered a slice of Gourmet’s most popular pizza. The name says it all. The Simple Peasant is layered with a mixture of Parmesan and Asiago cheeses and ladles of sweet Pomodoro Sauce. I now know why it’s a popular favorite. All of the flavors work in unison and no one overpowers the other. A classic that The Pizza Gourmet did not get wrong.

Prices were fair and the list of speciality pizzas will please any palate. The Pizza Gourmet is definitely a great place to grab a slice and enjoy the sights and sounds of the East Side.
